This article will help you prepare your testimony about how you repented and believed in Jesus as savior and Lord. The purpose of this article is not only to help you share how your life changed, but it’s also to help you prepare your testimony in such a way so that your testimony also declares the gospel of Jesus that changed your life. Why? Because sharing your testimony is a good way to share the gospel with non-believers. The hero of your testimony is not you, but it’s Jesus Christ. Because of this, when you share your testimony, you must not only describe how Jesus has affected your life, but you must also share the gospel message. If a person doesn’t know how to become a believer after hearing your testimony, then your testimony is not complete.
Use this outline for preparing your personal testimony in order to be clear about the gospel message and also about the effect Jesus has had on your life. By answering these four questions, you can make your testimony. Write your testimony in such a way that it takes about 5 minutes to share. Therefore, it’s not necessary that you describe everything about your life, only the most important parts. After writing your testimony, review it with a mature believer. Also, practice sharing your testimony so that you become comfortable and natural when you share it.
- Before knowing Jesus, what was your life like?
- How did God open your eyes and your heart and introduce himself and the gospel to me?
- What thing about the gospel of Jesus did you see that made you feel that the way of Jesus is right and that you needed to follow him? (Here, describe the gospel message so that your listeners know the way of salvation. For example, describe the four parts of the gospel – God, man Christ, response)
- How did Jesus change your life? What effect have you seen on your life because of your salvation?
If you are preparing your testimony to share it before you’re baptized, at the end of your testimony you should say something like, “Out of obedience to Christ, to declare my faith and show to everyone that I am a follower of Christ, I want to be baptized.”
