May Women Serve as Pastors?
Someone will occasionally ask me whether women may serve in the church. My answer is always, “Yes, of course! All believers are called upon to serve one another.”
But I would answer differently if someone asked me this question… “Should women serve in the church as a pastor?” I would answer that the New Testament plainly teaches that women should not be pastors of churches. It is clear in the New Testament that the terms pastor (شوان), overseer (چاودێر), and elder (پیر) refer to the same office (see Acts 20:17, 28; Titus 1:5, 7; 1 Pet. 5:1-2). For the remainder of this essay I will use the terms “elder” and “pastor” interchangeably, but I am referring to the same office in the church.
